  • The expat Berlin club promoters tell their story.

  • You can learn a lot about Berlin's club scene from the story of Kleine Reise, a former venue and record label run by three friends from Ireland: Dara O'Neill, Peter Power and Patrick Reddy. Without really knowing what they were doing, the trio set up a bar with no liquor license in the basement of a hostel. Within two years, it was a staple of Berlin's club scene, with regular international bookings and a tight family of regulars. They had to stop throwing parties in 2011 thanks to an irritated neighbor, but they bounced back almost immediately with a new spot across town called Loftus Hall, which quickly became a local favourite. Now they're getting ready to move on once again, though to where exactly they're not quite sure. But wherever they end up, their goal remains the same: to put on cozy, inclusive events like the house parties they'd had back in Dublin—"little utopias" as Power puts it.
