  • Miami's Club Space is temporarily closing its doors after Sunday, June 2nd, for renovations. Programming at Club Space—and its sub-venues Floyd and The Ground—will pause to make significant adjustments to the club's exit infrastructure. The move was necessitated by the construction of E11EVEN Hotel and Residences, a new luxury condo building being erected next door. The property, a collaborative venture between the nearby venue of the same name and real estate developer Property Markets Group, will comprise two 65-story towers situated on Club Space's east and west sides. As it currently operates, Space has three emergency exits located on the south side of the building parallel to its entrance facing Northeast 11th Street. But due to developer's plans to connect the surrounding condo's dual towers with an elevated hallway wrapping behind the club, and in turn the emergency exits, this has required architectural alterations to remain up to code with the City of Miami's building and fire-safety standards. Speaking to Resident Advisor, Club Space co-owners Coloma Kaboomsky, David Sinopoli and Davide Danese said the hiatus will be used to demolish the staircase leading from one of the ground-floor emergency exits into the upstairs Terrace. In its stead, a new stairwell will be built on the north side, integrating the club's emergency exits into an additional passageway that will lead directly from the ground floor entrance to the dance floor above. According to the trio, all parties involved have been in constant communication and that, while the modifications will be a shift from what clubgoers have grown accustomed to, the changes are purely for compliance—rather than cosmetic—reasons. "We want to preserve the aesthetics and the feel—that's not the purpose of the renovation," said Kaboomsky. "We have a great relationship with the developers, E11EVEN, our landlords, the City of Miami and our partners at Insomniac. It's made this challenge a lot more feasible to overcome." According to Sinopoli, neither the temporary closure nor these neighbouring residencies pose an existential threat to Club Space, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in March 2025. "The city has worked with us to come up with the safest renovation for the club," he said. "We were fortunate enough to have developers on 11th Street that were aligned with us on the future of nightlife in downtown Miami, which is Space, E11EVEN and a flourishing 24-hour district." Although the co-owners couldn't give an exact reopening date, the current plan is for renovations to wrap up in time for operations to resume in autumn 2024. In the interim, several of Club Space's planned community events and programming will shift to its sister venue, Factory Town. But before Club Space temporarily goes quiet, the team will host two weekends of closing parties across the long Memorial Day weekend into June 2nd, featuring Miami selectors such as Ms. Mada, Sister System and True Vine alongside the likes of Floorplan, Honey Dijon and Solomun. In addition, the club also plans on sharing weekly SoundCloud and YouTube uploads showcasing sets from across Club Space's history.
