  • Longstanding Johannesburg venue Kitchener's Carvery Bar is closing after 15 years. The 200-capacity space confirmed the news via Instagram on March 26th. "It's with heartbreak that we announce that due to economic circumstances the team behind Kitchener's will be moving on after 15 years of steering the ship through the choppy waters of Joburg life," the post read. "The space will undergo renovations under new custodianship to which we wish the best." The final parties will take place this weekend, with music from Phatstoki, Adillxh, Tha Cutt, Lotion, Rosie Parade, Timetrack and many more. Housed in a building built in 1906, Kitchener's was known for its eclectic programming spanning comedy, DJs and live performances. Past guests include DJ LAG, Themba, Tama Sumo, Ikonika, Nabihah Iqbal, Matias Aguayo, Esa and Suze Ijó. In recent years, the space also hosted local queer and femme collective P_ssy Party.
