  • Night bus services between Liverpool and Wirral are set to return this week. Previously axed during the pandemic, the service will return this Friday, December 8th, running from just after midnight every Friday, Saturday and Sunday over the festive season. The bus journey will cost £2. Operated by Stagecoach, The N1 bus will operate between Birkenhead and Allerton, with multiple stops in Liverpool city centre. The route will also service Toxteth, Wavertree and Mossley Hill. "The return of the night bus is completely revolutionary for Merseyside," Natasha Evans, founder of the Queensway Collective, told Resident Advisor. "With multiple independent organisations who supported night culture in the area having closed recently, it's finally a piece of long-awaited good news and a glimmer of hope. As someone who grew up in the Wirral, nightlife in Liverpool was inaccessible with the extortionate costs of taxi fares being a huge barrier. It's pretty absurd and archaic the amount of division these two areas face despite there being just a five-minute drive under the Mersey between them." The changes were also backed by Liverpool's mayor, Steve Rotheram, who explained the decision to the BBC's Local Democracy Reporting Service. "We've worked closely with local campaigners, students, late-night workers and our hospitality industry to bring back late bus services between Liverpool and the Wirral to make it safer, cheaper and easier for people to travel home—without having to cut the party short," he said. "This a massive result for local people, many who have been campaigning for this moment for three years."
