  • US electronica star Kid 606 is set to headline this month's Audioscope festival in Oxford. The festival takes place on Saturday 15th November at The Jericho, and runs all day from 1pm through til midnight. The recent Berlin transplant will be joined on the bill by avant-dubstepper Boxcutter, and a host of other live acts including hometown post-rockers The Workhouse. Before all this, however, there will be two warm-up dates; the first taking place at The Cellar on the 6th with live music from the Glenn Branca-inspired Action Beat, and a new band featuring members of Oxford bands The Workhouse, The Evenings and Sunnyvale Noise Sub-element, called From Light To Sound. The second warm up date will be at The Regal on the 10th, featuring a special show from US math-rock pioneers Don Caballero. Proceeds go to homeless charity Shelter, who couldn't be a more suitable charity considering the current economic climate. As Shelter's director of fundraising Alan Gosschalk explains, "Shelter has seen a marked increase in demand for our housing aid and advice services in the wake of the credit crunch, as people struggle with mortgage arrears, negative equity and the threat of repossession, so Audioscope's support has never been more vital." Whoever said that giving to charity can't be a good laugh?
