- The producer releases his new album next week, and is making limited edition homemade soup available as well.
Pop IDM wizard Max Tundra will release his third album for Domino next week in the UK and next month in the United States.
The album, entitled Parallax Error Beheads You, was six years in the making and it sounds like it. Suffused with pop hooks throughout, it's the work of a man obsessed with prog rock and '80s synth pop in equal measure. But unlike many producers out there, Tundra doesn't use the latest and greatest technology to craft his bedroom symphonies. Nope: As Tundra tells it, he's still using the Commodore Amiga 500 "running a $1 public domain software tracker program."
Tundra continues: "The sounds don't emerge from the Amiga itself...; the machine is used to control various synths, samplers and the like…. Each song is recorded in a different way; drumkits are recorded on mono cassette recorders twice, then stuck together on the left and right of a mix; string arrangements are planned and then layered up; each note of an electric guitar is sampled so that it can be sequenced in ways too complicated for my fat fingers to play at full speed. And then I have a cup of tea and sing my heart out."
While Tundra is obviously a tea fan, in the past few days it's also been revealed that he loves a bit of soup as well. In celebration of the album, he's made 250 cans of kosher chicken soup, which he'll be selling through Domino's webstore along with "an exclusive bonus download album of covers called Best Friends (a reinterpretation of Some Best Friend You Turned Out To Be by Max Tundra's friends.)" Yeah...we have no idea either.
