  • David Holmes returns to the world of full-length solo albums this September with The Holy Pictures. It's been eight years since Holmes last went it (relatively) alone in the studio, with 2000's Bow Down to the Exit Sign. But while its his first solo record in name, as is often the case Holmes has brought along a number of friends for the ride. Martin Rev, Leo Abrahams, and Jon Hopkins will all feature on the album, which purports to document Holmes' "life in Belfast and all the things attached to that—family, friends, loss, love, and starting a family of my own. All the stuff that shapes the person you become." While we've heard that one before, we're inclined to believe that Holmes' soundtracking prowess (he's scored four Steven Soderbergh films) will make evoking a location like Belfast a breeze. Whether that makes for good music, of course, remains to be seen. Tracklist 01. I Heard Wonders 02. Story of the Ink 03. Love Reign over Me 04. Theme / I.M.C. 05. Holy Pictures 06.
