Radio Slave and Joel Martin’s electronic exotica project Quiet Village unveils a debut album.
We thought we were pretty familiar with Radio Slave, aka techno thumper Matt Edwards, but his side project Quiet Village makes us think he might really be a softie at heart. A collab between Edwards and ex-film editor and music nut Joel Martin, Quiet Village take their name from the fake-Hawaiian Les Baxter track from the fifties, which should clue you in to the sound: QV loves bad Italian movie soundtracks, easy listening and slo-mo disco and aren’t too bothered about the dancefloor (well, perhaps a little bit).
So far QV have three singles out on rated label Whatever We Want, five sides of which make it onto the album, plus they’ve remixed the likes of Gorillaz, François K, Cosmo Vitelli and, um, The Osmonds. Silent Movie therefore is a summation of Quiet Village thus far—expect free hippie ramblings (‚Free Rider’), Sunday evening exotica (‚Can't Be Beat’) and porny prog rock (‚Circus of Horror’). You can preview a few tracks at QV’s MySpace.
