Afro-house rep DJ Gregory mixes up his back catalogue on his latest compilation for Defected. Faya Combo Sessions arrives in stores next week.
As one of the founding members of the Africanism project with Bob Sinclair, DJ Gregory was one of the first to mix African percussion and rhythms with house, before leaving the collective in 2002 to release music on his own African-inspired imprint Faya Combo.
Faya Combo Sessions is a triple-disc retrospective of DJ Gregory's career. "The idea is to have this range of DJ Gregory flavoured tracks, from disco to tribal to deeper, darker and tougher sounds, " says the Frenchman.
Disc one is a collection of DJ Gregory cuts and remixes mixed by himself including Kerri Chandler's remix of 'And', Âme's remix of 'Elle' plus newer FC selections. Discs two and three are unmixed volumes including the originals of classics 'Elle', 'S2' and 'Solaris' as well as reworkings by the likes of Karizma and the Pasta Boys. DJ Gregory's remix of Osunlade's latest single 'My Reflection' also makes the cut.
