English electro-pop outfit Hot Chip get behind the decks for the latest DJ Kicks compilation.
Hot Chip are a fully formed pop band, but they also moonlight as DJs when the fancy takes them. Aside from their full length albums ‘Coming On Strong’ [2004] and ‘The Warning’ [2006], Hot Chip have also remixed a wide range of artists including The Gorrillaz, Amp Fiddler and Badly Drawn Boy.
Hot Chip’s ‘DJ Kicks’ effort follows on from volumes by our Four Tet and Henrik Schwarz. In keeping with the ‘DJ Kicks’ ethos of mixing other genres into the dance comp format, Hot Chip mix together the techno likes of Soundhack, Dominik Eulberg and Roman Flugel with a bewildering array of genres including tropicalia (Tom Zé), blues (Etta James & Sugar Pie DeSanto), soul (industrial), pop (Joe Jackson).
