  • Modernism is a new London night which pulls together “the past, the present and the future sound of dance music.” Modernism starts next month at Turnmills. Opening night nods to the past with second generation Detroit technoist Stacey Pullen at the wheels. Pullen is not doing too badly in the present either – his RA.038 podcast mixed up vocal house and techno with not a beat out of place. Spinning alongside him will be fellow Motor City legend Blake Baxter, whose fusion of Chicago house and deep techno landed him releases on seminal labels Underground Resistance and Tresor in the nineties. These days you can find him cutting electrohouse with Marc Romboy and techno with Abe Duque. The present? It looks like Berlin is representing the now: Modernism features a Moodmusic showcase with head honcho Sasse and label signings Dave DK and Gavin Herlihy making their way to the capital. And the future? It's, er, Scottish. Glasgow's Soma Records turn out en force at Modernism with a DJ set by tech house duo Silicone Soul and a live set from Repeat Repeat, whose debut longplayer 'Squints' has been getting the thumbs up across the board. Elsewhere, Giles Smith from London's infamous Secretsundaze crew also spins. Advance tickets are on sale now for £12. Watch this space for further details about the post-Modernism afters. Modernism takes place 10pm - 6am at Turnmills in London on Saturday, February 3, 2007.
