‘Detached [01]’ compiles nine Dumb-Unit tracks with mix from label boss Jeremy P. Caulfield. The 2CD package will be released in February.
Caulfield has been releasing occasional ‘Detached’ mixes for over ten years now, always focusing on the dark, hypnotic side of minimal techno (the Dumb-Unit site has his first effort available for download, recorded live at his parents house in 1996!) A Toronto native, Caulfield located to Berlin in 2003, where he set up Dumb-Unit with a philosophy of focusing on new talent. Fresh faces are evident on CD 1 of ‘Detached [01]’, which collects standout tracks from the label’s last two years, including tracks by Butane, Sweet N Candy and Touane & Nuel.
The second CD is a seventy-three minute mix from Caulfield, who reaches outside of his label to include cuts from likeminded imprints such as Underl_ne, Alphahouse and Triebstoff. Mixed on two turntables with Serato Scratch, the result is “as fresh as I could get away without bootlegging it,” according to Caulfield.
