A new film about the excesses of Berlin clubbing has hit the streets. ‘Feiern’ features interviews with 24-hour party people Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano and Ewan Pearson.
'Feiern' is a new feature-length doco about the techno subculture in the city that never comes down: Berlin. Featuring interviews with DJ luminaries of the city's clubland, as well as partygoers and party victims, the film promises to show the highs and the lows of partying for seventy-two hours straight. If you ever wanted to find out what goes on in the dark room at the Panoramabar but were too scared to have a peek, this might be the film for you.
‘Feiern’ (German for 'party' or ‘celebration’), is subtitled “Don’t Forget to Go Home”, a piece of wisdom dispensed by Londoner-in-Berlin Ewan Pearson, one of the many DJs interviewed for the film. Fair warning, we suppose, in a place where the clubs forget to close. Pearson on playing to the stragglers: “Very, very disturbed people…who would just carry on dancing if you just stood there banging a wooden spoon on a saucepan.” So that's how minimal was invented then.
The film, which is directed by Maja Classen, premiered at the Achtung Berlin in May this year. It has yet to see an international video release, but you can get hold of it via Amazon.de. The 82-minute documentary is in German and English, and the DVD comes subtitled in German, English, French and Spanish.
You can check out the trailer at the Feiern website. The DVD also comes with a free bonus CD of tracks from the soundtrack.
