  • DJ/producer Tom Middleton mixes up soul, progressive rock, hip-hop and electro synth-pop on his latest musical journey. 'The Trip 2' is out this week. Tom Middleton is best known for his productions and remixes as Cosmos, Global Communication and as one half of The Jedi Knights together with Mark Pritchard. Next up for Middleton is a second compilation for the raid-your-music-collection Trip series. Middleton's first Trip mix is still the biggest seller in the series which has produced eclectic mixes from Jarvis Cocker, Joey Negro, Dirty Vegas and St. Etienne. Even Robbie Williams says his cover of Lewis Taylor's 'Lovelight' was inspired by the inclusion of the original on Middleon's first Trip CD. On 'The Trip 2' Middleton again displays scant regard for genre, unifying seemingly disparate music. He compiled the double CD after searching through his iTunes playlists bearing titles such as Soundtracks without Films, Sextrax, '70s TV Nostalgia, Future Folk and Obscuriosities. The result is a double CD that takes in hip-hop (Eric B & Rakim) electro-pop (Goldfrapp), progressive rock (Tangerine Dream), TV theme songs and everything in between. "There's no shortage of nuggets to blend, it's all about the criteria you use to select and filter. These days for me it's about purity of emotional content; memorable melodies be they sung or played with strong rhythmic backbones, " explains Middleton. "I'm not really concerned with the latest trends in sonic style (the many comps out there with that agenda will date quickly), only timeless tunes from the present and recent past that just simply need to be heard and shared."
