Latest Global Underground album comes from Dark Globe who merge breaks with the pop vocals of Boy George and Julie Thompson. 'Nostalgia for the Future' is released next week.
Dark Globe are Pete Diggens and Matt Frost. The pair grew up together but later moved apart in pursuit of very different musical careers; Diggens was the drummer in punk band Electric Sex Circus while Frost tried his hand at producing electro records. In the early nineties, the two hooked up again and started producing breaks together. They've since had releases on Whole Nine Yards and Bedrock Breaks plus remixed Orbital and Two Lone Swordsmen.
On debut album 'Nostalgia for the Future' Dark Globe combine breakbeat funk with pop vocals. 'Atoms' with its weepy Boy George vocals is intended to be an electronic ballad while 'For Raymond' with Julie Thompson (best known for the vocals on Holden's 'Nothing') is described as "lazy trip-hop". First single 'Break World' featuring Amanda Ghost is equally progressive breaks as much as it is sing-along pop.
The album will be released as both a single CD and a limited edition double CD with a bonus disc of remixes.
