Berlin minimal label Vakant release their debut 5” silver disc with Onur Özer & Mathias Kaden at the decks. Label compilation ‘Momentum’ will be released mid-September.
German label Vakant is the minimal techno home away from home to the likes of Alex Smoke, Robag Wruhme from the Wighnomy Brothers, Onur Özer from Turkey and Mathias Kaden.
Onur Özer is credited with bringing minimal and tech house to his hometown in Istanbul, but he’s recently been taking the sound back to Germany with releases on Vakant and Freude Am Tanzen. Tag-teaming with him on the mix is Mathias Kaden, one half of Henmann & Kaden, who were responsible for that remix of Trentemoller’s ‘Serinetti’ (did they beat the great Dane at his own game?)
The CD is billed as neither analog purism or an edit-heavy digital sessions – it’s a mixture of both. After plotting the track selection, the duo tag-teamed out the mix in old-school fashion using two Technics 1210s, a CD player and a sampler, afterwards going back and adding the finishing touches.
The mix features cuts by Alex Smoke, Robag Wruhme and several unreleased tracks including Kaden's ‘Nuance’, Özer's closing ‘Untitled’ and Spenza's ‘Kunstfehler’. The CD is billed as not simply a collection of tracks from the label, but an attempt to recreate the vibe of Vakant’s famed parties at Club Watergate in Berlin.
The CD also features bonus material in the form of two videos by Spenza, combining the artist's music and visuals.
