  • Techno ambassador Laurent Garnier will perform his film score to the French cinema classic 'Finis Terrae’ live at the National Film Theatre (NFT) in London this weekend. The debut UK performance is part of the Noise of Art Autumn Festival. Laurent Garnier is best known for classics 'Crispy Bacon' and 'The Man with the Red Face' but London fans can witness another side of his productions this Saturday. The techno don will mix rhythms, found-sounds and musical textures accompanied by pianist Benjamin Rippert at a live performance of his soundtrack to Jean Epstein's poetic docudrama 'Finis Terrae' (1929). Garnier premiered the film score to the 1929 film at the Louvre in Paris in April. The sonic collage was one of his biggest music challenges yet. "Finis Terrae was definitely the most challenging film I’ve worked on. I wanted to have a different approach to it compared to the films I've worked on before. Instead of writing all the music, I used a DJ/sound designer approach. I created the soundtrack with existing bits of music from my record collection. From electronica to rock to kids' music, everything was cut, changed and edited to be used as a soundtrack," says Laurent Garnier. After Garnier's performance, the bar facing the Thames at the NFT will be transformed into a riverside club until 2am with DJ sets and live performances by Noise of Art curator Ben Osborne and Plas from local electronic act Les Hommes Du Train. Laurent Garnier performs his 'Finis Terrae’ at the National Film Theatre, London on September 2nd, 2006.
