  • New Yorkers are in for one of those weekends. Ark and Mossa pair up for a live act this Friday at 3rd Ward that promises to shake the neighbourhood. The party starts at 10 p.m and finishes whenever, and that’s got to be good for you. Mossa is Jeremy Petrus, a DJ since 1999. Originally from the world of classical, you’ve got to wonder what his piano teacher would think of him since his conversion to the rhythm and kick of house & techno. Mossa runs the Montreal-based Complot Records, a label with a reputation for house and minimal with a smile. These days Mossa also produces, releasing minimalist, amusing, but rarely symmetrical circles of plastic on labels such as Cynosure, Mo’s Ferry and Orac. He’s also been remixed by producers such as Mike Shannon, John Tejada and Ark… ah, Ark. Ark was one of the first to bring minimal to the attention of the French, with releases stretching way back in 1997. But his career didn’t begin then; he began his career playing guitar in an eighties funk band, and still to this day he can be seen lugging his guitar case along to techno gigs. Those who’ve seen Ark live will know to expect the unexpected: Pulp in Paris won't forget anytime soon his energy-fuelled mixing of reggae to hardcore alongside Mr. Oizo, Feadz and Herbert. As his bio puts it, “When he plays, his hair get moving all around, his body is a prisoner of the beat, he becomes the most beautiful man in the world... and the most unforeseeable.” He also gives great video.
