  • One of London's most famous clubbing institutions Ministry of Sound (MoS) celebrates a decade and a half in clubland on September 9, 2006. Past and present residents including CJ Mackintosh, Steve Angello and Marc Hughes have been invited to play. Ministry of Sound opened its doors in the autumn of 1991 and each Friday and Saturday night since, its main room has been the playground for thousands and thousands of clubbers. Modeled on New York's Paradise Garage, the Southwark superclub was one of the first venues to introduce house music to London. Early resident DJs were Justin Berkman and Paul Oakenfold, who regards the club as instrumental in shaping the London club scene. In an online interview last month Oakenfold said, "Ministry came along and blew everyone away. It put London on the map, as big as New York in club terms." For its fifteenth birthday, MoS has invited six of its current and former residents to spin. There'll also be a retrospective set of house classics and MoS anthems from a secret guest DJ who their press says, "will pick up his headphones and dust off his vinyl for one night only". Will it be Paul Oakenfold? Danny Rampling? Watch this space for further announcements.
