Bodzin mix: Okay, this one has been the default mix of choice round the RA offices for a while. Stephan Bodzin is one third of Electrochemie on Get Physical, the production force behind the revitalized Thomas Schumacher, the brains behind the Rekorder project and also now churning the hits under his own name – electrohouse man of the year? Check out his demo mix for a taste of the signature Bodzin sound, dark but not too dark, cheeky but not too cheeky and always totally musical. There’s a new Schumacher demo mix on the same page, too.
Saved by the bell: This one we swiped from the RA forums. Besides bagging Danny Tenaglia to play his first UK gig in two years at Club Class in September, Nic Fanciulli has also found time to upload a new mix to the homepage of his label Saved Records. The 60-minute mix includes Booka Shade's 'Trespass05' plus two brand spanking new tracks by Nic, the excellent 'Lucky Heather' and 'Cat Out Of The Bag', both forthcoming on his next 12" for Renaissance. Nic recently swung by the RA forums to drop off his latest Top 10 chart which you can check out here. [Big thanks again to the lovely bootness.]
Disco inferno: If you can bear going over to AOL, they’re streaming a new set of half-remembered disco-funk, reggae and dance punk which sounds like an excellent party. On the decks is James Murphy, one half of LCD Soundsystem and the headman of DFA Records, joined by Small Change, WMFU DJ who owns “tens of thousands of records.” AOL is… well, you get the idea. The mixing is at times a bit perfunctory, but that’s not the point with this kind of music. Sets of rare gems like this could be improved by only one thing: a tracklist.
Dumb and dumber: Berlin/Canadian minimal label Dumb Unit has a nice download page with new mixes from label boss Jeremy P. Caulfield guesting on Amsterdam radio and Italian signing Touane spinning live in Barcelona. Caulfield has also posted a mix he made ten years ago recorded live at his parents house which was just recently found in their basement. Brave man. And a cursory listen reveals it sounds a lot like the Caulfield of today! Who said minimal techno was just a fad?
Frankfurter: Silvie Marks is a Frankfurt DJ who often teams with HAL9000 to release on Bpitch Control. She flies a little under the radar in the English speaking world but you can check out her top tens at her website for the lowdown on what to expect, where you'll also see she knows a thing or two about photography. If you like your electro/techno party style and accessible, her latest mix made for Radio X comes highly recommended.
