  • Brighton club night Boutique will celebrate ten years of partying on Saturday, August 5 at Turnmills. Electro, techno and French acid funk should ensure the candles on the birthday cake blow out by themselves. The Boutique held their first night back in 1996 in a venue opposite Brighton Pier. Although it was a Tuesday, 250 punters rocked up to see DJs including Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim), Midfield General and Jon Carter and the Boutique night was quickly shifted to a Friday. The parties that soon followed were pivotal in the birth and explosion of big beat and helped to launch the careers of artists including Jacques Lu Cont and Fatboy Slim. As if spearheading a new dance music genre weren't enough, in 2002, Boutique made clubbing history again when Fatboy Slim headlined the biggest and most famous Boutique bash ever, the 250,000+ Big Beat Boutique 2 free party on Brighton Beach. Now ten years young, The Boutique are throwing a birthday bash on Saturday, August 5 at Turnmills. Spread across four rooms, the night includes a few of dance music's pioneers (Robert Hood and Philippe Zdar) and some Brighton lads made good (Dave Clarke and Radioslave's Matt Edwards). Leading the charge in Room 1 is electro techno pioneer Dave Clarke, back on home soil after a recent spate of festival hopping in Serbia, Spain and Germany. Minimal Detroit techno legend Robert Hood [Underground Resistance] will also premier his Grey Area DJ set, a personal journey from house to minimal techno including material from his first and second 'Hoodmusic' albums and labels M-Plan and Music Man. Clarke and Hood will be supported by current remixer du jour and Brighton boy Radioslave (aka Matt Edwards). Room 2 sees Philippe Zdar from Cassius dishing out French house and funk alongside the dirty rhythms and fucked up robotic vocals of long-serving Boutique resident DJ Touche. The ubiquitous Secret Sundaze pair of James Priestley and Giles Smith will be spinning the best new house and techno with Adventures Close to Home DJs mashing up indie, punk funk and electro in Room 4. Boutique 10th Birthday Full Lineup Room 1: Dave Clarke Robert Hood Radioslave Toby Tobias Room 2: Cassius (Philip Zdar DJ Set) Touche The Insurgents Lil Lucy Room 3: James Priestley Giles Smith Danny Clark Room 4: Adventures Close to Home DJs From crowds of 250 to 250,000, the Boutique have kept their philosophy of an open-minded attitude to music and a hedonistic approach to partying. Their tenth birthday looks like being no different. "The anniversary party is a gathering and reflection of the non commercial DJs who do it for the music and hedonistic party lovers. A snapshot of the future and what’s happening on the more discerning dance floors across the world rather than a tiresome retrospective,” says Boutique's Gareth Hansome. Boutique's 10th Birthday takes place at Turnmills, London on Saturday, August 5th. Doors open at 10:00 p.m. Advance tickets priced at £15 can be purchased from Ticketweb.
