The long-awaited mix CD from minimal queen Magda will finally hit the shelves in August. But at 71 tracks, just how much was her licensing bill?
Magda was born in Poland, grew up in America and now resides in Berlin. Since the turn of the millennium she’s been building a steady fan base throughout Europe, North America and Japan with a few residencies in Europe squeezed in along the way. Recently she’s also turned to producing with cuts on M_nus and Mobilee.
“She’s A Dancing Machine” is built out of micro-edits, custom loops and effects arranged and processed in Final Scratch. Squeezing 71 tracks into CD length, don’t expect to more than a snippet of each cut but do expect a seamless blend integrating various records into a unique whole, a la Richie Hawtin’s ‘Transitions.’
The CD loops in Madga’s own productions, the usual dollop of M_nus stalwarts such as Hearthrob, Troy Pierce and Ryan Crosson, and cuts from Magda’s new Run Stop Restore label Items & Things. But it’s not all the latest minimal techno. Look carefully at the tracklist and you’ll spot records from the likes of Metro Area, Robert Babicz, Larry Heard and Portion Control.
