  • Turnmills has made a habit of giving international DJs a London home to showcase their talents, and extend their formula for success with the announcement of a new night Black Wiz hosted by Kings Of Tomorrow’s Sandy Rivera. Sandy Rivera’s event will aim to further to enhance his reputation as a house don with the night that shares the same as his popular house ouput. The Black Wiz label wasa originally founded in 1994 as a hip hop showcase and funded partly through a publishing deal with, bizarrely, Burt Bacharach. Now twelve years on, Rivera's collaboration with Robert Owens 'Just Won’t Do' is injecting new life into the label. Looking ahead to his forthcoming Turnmills residency, Sandy is looking forward to getting some booty on the floorboards
”I could play a whole set, five hours, of just tech-house if it feels right, but usually it’s got peaks and troughs. I start off jazzy, funky but still, y know, heavy and then get more vocal-led - that gets the ladies on the dancefloor, which any DJ will tell you is crucial”
The residency will kick off on June 17 with a six hour main room set from the afro sporting star himself alongside the above. Black Wiz Open night – June 17 Room 1: Sandy Rivera (6 hour set) James Jackson (Defected) Room 2: Femi B Richard M DJ Lewi Decasa room 3: Hosted by motherfunkers Frenzie / Craze Ross Mac / Lewi J / Danny S Expect live percussion, dancers and performers to add further flavour to the evening.
