  • Launched in 2002, Proton Radio was one of the first Internet radio stations in North America to broadcast electronic music twenty four hours a day. The station quickly cornered a niche amongst progressive fans with its weekly Featured Artist showcasing emerging DJs and producers including James Zabiela and Digital Witchcraft. Four years later and Proton is still mining the progressive tip but a deeper looks reveals a diversity of programming with love shown also for tech house, techno and electrohouse. This year a whopping sixteen shows have been added to the Proton line-up including a Kompakt Records show broadcasting a rotation of Cologne's finest, techno with 'Maschine Sounds' from Oliver Lieb, Jeff Bennett's tech house show 'Kung Fu Dub Mix Sessions', stomping electrohouse on the Great Stuff Recordings show, Kosmas Epsilon's 'Personal' and 'Le Son de la Perche' from French minimal up-and-comer Bastien Grine. Proton has always been a listener-funded station and the new shows are part of its new On Demand service which allows listeners to tune into a show at anytime for subscription fees ranging from $US9.99 a month to $US99.99 a year. As one of the first Internet radio stations to get behind dance music, it's good to see Proton still getting with the programming.
