The new 'Boogy Bytes' compilation scrapes away the dirty house sound of Bpitch Control to reveal a shiny euphoria. Behind the decks this time is one of the label’s longest-serving artists, Bpitch gopher and melodic tech house producer Sascha Funke.
Kompakt completists may recognise the name, but Funke has also released an album and almost a dozen 12"s on BPitch label. The wistful melodies and dreamy synths of his LP 'Bravo' (2003) flew under the radar, but with all eyes on Berlin this year, the release of his debut mix CD ‘Boogy Bytes’ is pricking up ears in the right places. So is this the new Sascha?
Funke repeats his penchant for the lows and the highs on 'Boogy Bytes Vol. 2' with a selection of old and new tracks ranging from the solemn melodies of Efdemin's 'Jean' and Phantom Ghost's 'These Days' to the 1994 trance (complete with whistles) of Transformer 2's 'Pacific Symphony'. Current house anthem ‘Where We At’ by Henrik Schwarz, Dixon and Ame also gets a timely spin.
On 'Boogy Bytes Vol. 2' Funke veers away from the dark electro techno typically associated with BPitch Control and its matriarch Ellen Allien, and in doing so, presents a smooth, personal sound which should delight fans of the label.
