  • For those looking for Ibiza action on the Sabbath, We Love Sundays at Space has been the only game in town for years. 2006 sees promoters MN2S step up to offer partygoers a real house music alternative on Sundays with a host of artists spinning at El Divino including Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, Blaze, and Todd Terry. ‘If it ain't broke don't fix it’ is the reigning credo of long-running successful Ibiza parties. Take a look at the schedule this summer and you’d be forgiven for thinking it was 2001: Def Mix is still there on Saturdays at Pacha, Sundays at Space is back once again, and Cocoon still rules Mondays at Amnesia… Ibiza is a difficult to place to break a new night: it's competitive and the price of failure is high, which was a lesson promoters of Viva!/Fundacion learned last year when even Steve Lawler and Sasha couldn't save them from having to quietly close a room off mid-season. For newcomers, an alternative to a DJ Bar or being shoved into a sideroom is putting on parties on Sunday nights when most clubs in Ibiza traditionally take a siesta. This year MN2S step up to the task with house parties at El Divino every Sunday night. The venue has been a foot in the door to Ibiza for nights like Defected and Azuli, both of whom subsequently moved up into a midweek slot at Pacha. Contenders MN2S are a record label and DJ agency that has been serving up deep and soulful house for a decade. Every Sunday at El Divino from June 25 to September 24, residents Joey Negro and CJ Mackintosh will be joined by guests from the lengthy MN2S roster including Todd Terry, Cassius, Kenny Dope, Derrick Carter, Tony Humphries, Miguel Migs, DJ Sneak, Kerri Chandler, The Jinks, Mark Farina, Seamus Haji and Blaze. With that veritable who's who of house lined up and pre-parties planned at various locations around the island, here's hoping the nights are successful and classic house can claw back a permanent toehold on the island on Sundays. Will they make it back next year? We're not sure yet but watch this space as the battle for Ibiza heats up this summer. Check RA's Ibiza 2006 listings for the full MN2S weekly line-ups at El Divino.
