  • Sway Music Café is an exciting and certainly original new concept. Aiming to combine food, beverages and huge quantities of new independent music, Sway is a new venue for Melbournians who have a well documented passion for all three. Sway provides their clientele with an extensive catalogue of music that will be available to them in three formats – CDs, Records and MP3s with a distinct focus on new technologies and digital access. Customers access the catalogue via iPods provided with listening stations containing the mp3s and wavs available for sale as well as the CDs available to purchase. After months of hard work Ryan Papa is obviously very happy to cut the red tape and let the store loose on locals:
Its been an extremely exciting project for us. The response from everyone about the concept has been really positive particularly from the labels. We really hope people get behind the idea, as I truly believe it helps independent labels and artists. With the industry evolving more and more digitally, whether people like it or not it is where music sales are headed so its nice to be one of the first to incorporate mp3s in a physical store setting.
The digital catalogue already includes labels like Downstream records, Infamous Light Recordings, Black & White, Blue Dove, Pure Substance Records, Litmus, Dorigen, Jackit, Hope, Marine Parade, Plastic Fantastic, Plastica, Fantastic House, Apple Jaxx, Erase Records, Wallop, Heavy Rotation, Underground Lessons Recordings, Sound Not Scene , Headrush Music, Toes in the Sand Recordings, NIght Drive Music, Pissed Off Recordings, Moulded Records and Stigma Recordings. For labels interested in selling their catalogues through Sway Music Cafe feel free to contact them on ([email protected]), whilst if you are thirsty, hungry or music loving Melbournite then head to 16 Bourke St, Melbourne, Victoria, 3000 and enjoy this clever little venture.
