  • Functional Records, owned by Biff (winner of the ‘Outstanding Contribution To Breakbeat’ trophy at last year’s Breakspoll Awards), will press its fortieth release in April. Since its inception in 1999, the label formerly known as Functional Breaks has built up a reputation for releasing quality breaks cuts from artists including Spoon Wizard, Stabilizer, Ben & Lex, Tayo, Future Funk Squad, Dreadzone and DJ Killer. In addition to its 12 inch catalogue, the label has also found success via its compilation series ‘Beatz & Bobz’ (the same name as the long-running monthly night in Exeter), with the sixth installment due to be mixed by JDS. In 2005, Functional also saw the release of its first artist album by Dreadzone. For their 40th release, Functional Records has chosen the 'turbo charged, disco inspired' breaks of 'Digital Funk' by Will White (one half of The Proprellerheads), with a remix by Rennie Pilgrem adding considerable icing to the label's celebratory cake. 'Digital Funk' by Will White will be released on Functional Records on April 3rd, 2006.
