  • One of the best labels for innovative sounds is the UK imprint Distinctive Records. Three of their best, namely Ils, General Midi and Evil Nine will be touring Australia this summer. Paul Crossman a.k.a General Midi is Distinctive Records latest signing, having recorded previously on some of the most respected breaks labels including TCR (Rennie Pilgrims label) & Kilowatt (Hyper’s label). He has always managed to master a more ‘level crunching, dub flavoured and bass fuelled musical ride’ than his peers and it is this that has earned him his fast growing reputation as the source of a great night out when he’s at the controls and as “the producer’s producer”. General Midi's tour is perfectly timed to support his debut solo artist album ‘Midi Style’ which has just been released worldwide on Distinctive. Preview tracks from the album have hinted at a first class release which covers breakbeat, electro and a little bit of the ragga sound. There's much excitement surrounding Ils' first visit to Australia, as he has gathered a legion of fans since his conversion from drum'n'bass to breaks with the release of his albums 'Soul Trader' and more recently 'Bohemia'. Bring it on! Evil Nine are the duo of Tom Beaufoy and Pat Pardy. They already have an Aussie fan club from previous trips to DJ in Australia. While most of their productions have been released on Marine Parade, their track 'Cakehole' have featured on at least four compilation CDs including Ils Presents: Y4K and FabricLive 08 by the Plump DJs. 'Crooked' was another big hit for them and was also on Global Underground 023 Barcelona by James Lavelle. Their connection with Distinctive has been forged by the fact that they're responsible for the latest release in the excellent Y4K series with Evil Nine Presents: Y4K.
