UK drum ‘n’ bass stalwart Mickey Finn makes an almost annual pilgrimage Downunder to play for his Aussie and Kiwi fans. This year is no different, and he will be bringing “The Lyrical Dappa” – MC Shabba along for company on his December tour.
Mickey Finn is a dance music veteran in the truest sense of the word, with his involvement in the scene stretching way back to the early days of the acid house movement. The early 90s saw him embrace the jungle sound. His love of floor-shaking grooves saw him team up with fellow Drum ‘n’ Bass hero DJ Aphrodite to launch the imprint Urban Takeover, a label that’s become synonymous with serious beats and showcasing up coming talent. The year 2005 has seen Mickey return to doing original productions. A recent collaboration with Special K produced the hip-swivelling gems ‘The Cleanser/The Drums’, whilst a studio date with Aphrodite saw the instant party-started ‘Bad Ass’ come to life.
With his father being the former road manager for The Sex Pistols and his own involvement in music stretching way back to his early teens, MC Shabba was always destined to be purveyor of funked-up sonic grooves. Shabba’s passion for reggae-infused D’n’B saw him spend the best part of the 90s pioneering the sound on some of the UK’s most respected underground radio stations. Local and international club gigs followed, with Shabba regularly touring the US, Canada and Europe, supporting the likes of Andy C, Grooverider, Kenny Ken and among many others. In 2005, Shabba now runs the well-respected Highly Blessed production company with Paul “Ibiza”, a venture that’s spawned its own record label, merchandise, DJ agency and website.
