  • London based, but with global repercussions, Pete Tong’s Radio One Essential Mix is widely recognised as the most influential radio show of its kind in the world of electronic music. Having launched his new Essential Series, to great success, Pete Tong has announced he will dust off the tracklistings from previous years, sift through his extensive record collection and put together his first ever retrospective album. The current intelligent and aurally thirsty dance music consumer has a real drive to enjoy the sound of tomorrow, rather than the sound of last week, but when a man like Pete Tong, puts together an album of classics, many of which he helped announce to the world, you have to sit up and take notice. Speaking about his passion for a ‘classic’ record he sights the feel good factor as a key element:
”So much happens in peoples' lives, but it is music that can bring back memories and make people feel good. Tunes can give you goose bumps when you hear them as the memories come flooding back."
Classic albums aren’t a new concept, but through his obvious ability to spot a ‘big’ record and his clear passion for shouting about classic cuts from all genres he has put together a 3 disc album showcasing tracks that he thinks will make this release relevant for years to come.
Bearing in mind the recent classic compilations, I have tried to select a meaningful and original collection of music that deserves to stand up and be counted. a special thanks also goes out to the Daft Punk crew for giving us some rarities that mean a lot to the Ibiza scene, though rarely see the light of day on compilations."
