  • It has been a huge 2005 for the Playtime crew. Their monthly club night goes from strength to strength with its formula of showcasing artists from abroad that compliment their sound, whilst adding some heavy hitting local talent and their residents to the mix. Their next party will be an all England affair with a wide variety of artists spanning from the legendary Tim Sheridan through to the exciting and emerging Tom Mangan who will soon release a track on Playtime Records. November 4th Playtime Tim Sheridan Will Saul Cheshire Catz Tom Mangan Mike Monday Big Daddy G Brett Lawrence Their label’s performance is providing the most joy for Mike Monday & Big Daddy G, with their second release Tooting Warrior - ‘Belter’ selling out its first pressing in less than a week and the first release, the massive “What day is it” now into its fifth pressing. Speaking to RA about the labels success and especially that of the first track, Big Daddy G gives a good insight:
Mike and I had been talking about a label for some time before that but, yes, what day was the spur to get moving. It was such an obviously great track, and so cool, that we wanted to make sure everyone heard it. When he played it at the club the first time, people went berzerk. And then we gave a copy to Simon, the guy who runs Phonica, one of the coolest stores in London. He raved about it, as did Lesley Wright, the editor of DJ magazine. We figured if those two liked it that was the press and the stores covered. But that said, it took it months to get the label off the ground - we had problems pressing the track because it's so dynamic, and a few DJs had had copies of it about five months before it actually hit the shops. It's been fantastic for the club, too. Now what day has been so successful, suddenly we've been able to book a collection of European DJs for 2006 who would probably have otherwise gone straight to Fabric and missed us entirely.”
Watch this space and expect Playtime’s much justified rise to continue.
