- Having recently returned from his third successful Pure Pacha Friday night residency in Ibiza, this Friday sees Radio 1's Pete Tong back on the decks in London with his gig at Turnmills. The night will see Tong performing alongside Nick Warren and the album launch party for the Thrillseekers. The nights special guest will be Tong, who makes a welcome return after a busy summer in Spain. It was once again a memorable Ibiza season for the Radio 1 DJ; highlights including the performance of his own track with production partner Chris Cox, the Radio1 Ten Year Anniversary celebrations, and witnessing Jamie Cullum sing ‘Everyone Loves the Sunshine’ at Café Mambo. Citing the summer of 2005 as one of the most inspirational in the history of the White Isle, Pete says, "Ibiza's been a massive leap from say where we were in 1999. A lot of producers, club runners and alike would have been quite inspired by what they saw, heard and experienced in Ibiza this year." Like most of the top UK jocks, this year has also seen Pete embrace all things German. He adds, "I think this year has been a really defining moment…it was the year when it didn’t matter if you went to DC10, Pacha or Amnesia on a Monday night (Cocoon), there was more of a unifying sound of the island, which is the much mentioned minimal sound". However even the most well-known face of British Dance Music couldn't get a track licenced from Ministry of Sound for his Essential Selection compilation forthcoming on Universal. "I didn’t get everything I absolutely wanted, " admits Pete. "I didn’t get Tom Novy, which was meant to be on there, but Ministry didn’t want to give it away. But to get the first usage of the Jacques Lu Cont mix of The Killers and the U2 track, plus Bob Sinclar was amazing." Pete hopes the mix album which consists of two CDs - the Light Side and the Dark Side - represents a good cross-section of the material he's known for spinning at various hours of the day and night. "I wanted to do a bit of everything, with the Light side reflecting my sets on the Terrace and the Mambo side of what I was doing in Ibiza and of course on the Radio show, whilst the Dark side is what you hear me play at Turnmills and everywhere else" he explains.
