  • While the majority of attention settles on Europe with the festival season getting well and truly underway in July, those in the Far East will be pleased to know that Tokyo's techno contingent will once again be waving the flag for the Asia region at its Wire Festival on July 16th. Now in its fifth year, Wire, the brainchild of Japanese DJ/producer Takkyu Ishino, will, as in previous years, feature many past international guests from his long-running monthly Sterne night at Womb in addition to some of the veterans of Tokyo's local techno scene like Fumiya Tanaka, DJ Tasaka, Kagami, Toby and Shin Nishimura. Taking place at baseball and football stadium Yokohama Arena just outside of Tokyo, Japan's open-minded and always up-for-it techno crowds can look forward to hearing some of the early leaders of the scene like 808 State, Westbam and Joey Beltram as well as newer talents who have broken through in a big way on the international circuit in the past 12 months like Renato Cohen, Joris Voorn and Ellen Allien. Filling out the line-up will be DJ sets from Abe Duque, Bad Boy Bill, Chris Liebing, Frank Muller, Hatiras, DJ Hell, Luke Slater and live performances from The Modernist, Reinhard Voigt, Ryukyudisko, Secret Cinema, Tok Tok and Vanguard.
