  • The winner of the Nokia’s competition Terminal 9 Connecting Beats was new Brisbane band, My Ninja Lover, who are former members of acclaimed groups Zephyr Timbre and Bumperscuffs. The competition was supported by a national tour of Australia and called for all producers/song writers to submit songs within the genres Drum & Bass, Hip-Hop and Breaks. With a judging panel of 9 highly respected industry sorts, a selection of 9 finalists were chosen. The voting was then handed over to the public who placed My Ninja Lover first. The Band now have a major kick-start. For their prize they will recieve a fully mastered EP (to be called "Silk and Daggers") and a flight to London to meet with the likes of Cat Skills, Fingerlickin’ and Fat Records. In addition, the group will also perform their original blend of female vocal driven bleephop and high octane beats at Paul Arnold’s Chew the Fat night at renowned London club The End on Friday 18 February. The lineup on the night will feature Evil 9, Drumattic Twins, Friendly, Paul Arnold and Tigerlily with 9 Lives the Cat, as well as My Ninja Lover. It will be hosted by MC Xander, and in the lounge you can catch The Big Chill SoundSystem. The Aussie connection continues with Chew the Fat resident Friendly, who is gearing up for the March release of the first in a line of special mix CDs “Chew The Fat! at End presents… Friendly” in celebration of the Fat! events. Joining the chaps in the DJ box will be the new Fat! girl in residence Tigerlily aka Emily Walker. Tigerlily held a number of prestigious Breaks residencies back in her native Australia and she now makes her Chew The Fat! debut alongside ‘scratch specialist’ 9 Lives the Cat (Daniel Walker), who is signed to Cut La Roc’s imprint Rocstar Recordings. Chew The Fat! at the End is on Friday 18 Febuary. Doors open at 10pm, through to 5am. Entry is £10/£6.
