  • The good people at the Croft are planning some special entertainment on one of Melbourne's biggest nights, Cup Eve, Monday 1 November. Don't go heading down to their bar though, as this party is on at Deep Eleven at the Mercat X Hotel behind the Vic Markets. Sound-on-Soundsystem will present UK MC and DJ Spikey Tee. Over the almost 20 years that Spikey Tee has been working in the music industry he has progressed from being a warehouse DJ in London, to band member of the avant-garde “The Sindecut”, whose 13-year-old genre-defying album, “Changing The Scenery” (Virgin Records), still sounds as fresh today as it did on release in 1990, to lead vocalist in Jah Wobble’s Invaders Of The Heart. All the while Spikey continued to DJ, mixing hip-hop, R&B, ragga, and drum ‘n’ bass. Spikey has also teamed up with the Manchester hip-hop label Grand Central for a number of collaborations. A track with Mr. Scruff, “Is It Worth It”, was received extremely well, as was “Erase The Pain” for Tony D’s ‘Pound for Pound’ album. Spikey also appears on the Morcheeba album “Big Calm”, where his vocals feature on “Friction”. Most recently he can be found on Mark Rae’s debut solo LP, “Rae Road”, on the final track “Throne” and 3 recordings for Australian outfit Hydrofunk Records, “Stand Firm, Adore you and Gunshot Dub”. An appearance on DJ Hype’s Ganja label will also mark his first vocal drum ‘n’ bass outing. Spikey is now putting the pieces together for a solo project, collaborating with Morcheeba, Massive Attack, Tim Simenon, Rae & Christian and Australian band 2 Dogs. This is sure to be amazing event with Spikey Tee dropping wicked Jamaican inspired soul-style vocals as DJs. Hit the link below for more details on the event. Kick off time is 11pm. Tickets $10 / $8.
