Plenty of Z-type chit chat in the dancey circles these days. And deservedly so. Zabiela’s a riot to watch behind the decks, attacking the CDJ1000’s, scratching anything that moves and blending four four, breakbeat and anything with a steam roller bassline into a wall of sound that generally creates dancefloor mayhem. You lucky people in Australia. Go catch it. But this here is all about a CD.
Hooj are about to unleash “Sound in Motion”, a double CD mixed live by the young upstart. Hooj’s philosophy? “If you listen carefully you'll hear the lad abusing Pioneer’s CDJ1000s like a junior Jeff Mills for the post-Technics generation - scratches, loops, reverses etc, but that’s not what “Sound in Motion” is about - just a natural by-product of a young, seriously technical DJ let loose on some heavyweight new technology.”

I got wind of this release a few weeks ago over quite a few beers and this is how the mix was described to me through a haze of smoke and pint glasses. “Zabiela’s mix is phat and chunky house, bassbin-worrying breakbeats and lashings of squiggly progressive….” (source: undisclosed for obvious reasons). After a few listens I’m happy to report it is. Mental. Stay tuned.
