- The LP is coming out via Livity Sound in April.
Kowton's first album, Utility, will arrive on Livity Sound in April.
"The name Utility came from a series of conversations I had in the build up to finishing the record," the UK producer told The Quietus. "What feels most prescient to me right now is writing concise music with purpose and direction—visceral music that's uncluttered both sonically and theoretically. I wanted to create an LP that works on the floor but is nuanced enough to justify repeat listens and self-aware enough to sit properly as a complete album."
The nine-track LP is the first solo album to come out on Livity Sound, though the label's three original founders—Kowton, Peverelist and Asusu—released a collaborative compilation in 2013. For his part, Kowton has been responsible for releasing lean, bassy club music both solo and in collaboration with the Livity Sound crew. He has a solo live show in the works too, though details on that are still TBA.
