  • The electronic music community is paying tribute to David Bowie, who has died at the age of 69. Tributes have been pouring in since news broke of Bowie's death. His influence in electronic music is immense, and artists from across the music spectrum have been paying their respects. Kerri Chandler took to Facebook to write: "Your voice, personality, music, style and tone has warmed my heart since childhood and said to me it's very cool to be different, don't let fear get in the way and to just become the music you create. Your style will live on for us all." Underground Resistance also posted a tribute on Facebook. Others, like Carl Craig, Giorgio Moroder, Laurel Halo and Novelist, took to Twitter to share their thoughts. You can read some of their tributes below, and read an interview with Nile Rodgers about his history with Bowie over on Pitchfork.
News of the death broke late last night via the star's official social media channels, confirming that he "died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer." His son, Duncan Jones, also tweeted about the loss. Born David Robert Jones in London in 1947, Bowie was one of popular music's most innovative and revolutionary artists, responsible for more than 25 albums and countless hits, among them "Let's Dance," "Life On Mars" and "The Man Who Sold The World." His final LP, Blackstar, was released only last week. Bowie was also a successful screen actor, starring in Basquiat (as Andy Warhol), Martin Scorsese's The Last Temptation Of Christ and 1976 British cult classic The Man Who Fell To Earth. JD Twitch uploaded a mix of "Bowie songs I have played in discotheques over the years," which you can listen to below.
