  • The seventh solo album from Surgeon will land on January 29th. Titled From Farthest Known Objects, the record sees Surgeon (real name Anthony Child) stretch out across eight tracks. Child says this project came about when he discovered that by experimenting with "old and unlikely hardware" he was able to "tune into transmissions from Distant Galaxies." He subsequently linked up with guitarist and astrophysicist Dr Andrew Read (with whom Child recorded a string of drone and ambient sketches back in the late '90s), and went to work identifying where these mysterious transmissions originated. The album's track titles ("EGS-zs8-1," "z8_GND_5296," "SXDF-NB1006-2," etc) designate the corresponding galaxy. From Farthest Known Objects arrives on Child's Dynamic Tension label almost five years since the release of his last solo full-length as Surgeon, Breaking The Frame. He's kept busy in that time, collaborating with Blawan (as Trade), experimenting with modular synthesis and developing an ambient live show. Child also launched SRX, a reissue label, and recorded an album in the Hawaiian jungle under the name Maui. Preview "BDF-3299" and watch Child's recent appearance in our Sessions series below.
