- The Scottish producer's new alias is inspired by Nordic electronic music.
Alex Cowles, AKA DFRNT, will drop a new album as Stillhead next January.
Iceberg is Cowles' second release as Stillhead and the first full-length under the name. (He debuted the alias with an EP last year.) The new project is meant to reflect a Nordic influence, "from Danish electronic acts like Lulu Rouge, Trentemoller and Mike Sheridan to the Icelandic Tonik Ensemble and Kura," according to the press release, and it might have something to do with the Scottish artist's relocation to Estonia.
Label Here & Now Recordings goes onto say that Iceberg was also inspired by Autonomic drum & bass, dub techno and more abstract electronica from the likes of Rob Clouth and Rival Consoles. The LP features vocal spots from Estonian singers Triinu Taul and Zoe Ellying, as well as a verses from Chicago rapper Mu Vonz.
Cowles first emerged as DFRNT in the late 2000s, making atmospheric, dub-influenced bass music and running labels Echodub, Cut and Brightest Dark Place.
