  • Ghostly International has announced details for Brooklyn duo Beacon's second album, Escapements. Due out in February 2016, Escapements finds Thomas Mullarney III and Jacob Gossett "engaging ideas of pain and loss with a surreal palette," according to Ghostly. The album's title refers to the timekeeping element in watches and clocks, and Mullarney describes the concept of clock mechanics and "the entropy it implies" as a key inspiration for the album: "Friction and changes in amplitude over time mean every escapement, no matter how well crafted, will lose its accuracy and effectively slow down time via its own decay." Tycho drummer Rory O'Connor features on the album, while the cover art comes courtesy of photographer Caleb Charland. Beacon's connection with Ghostly began about four years ago, and since then the duo has stayed exclusive to the Ann Arbor label, except for a limited, self-released CD in 2012. Their debut album The Ways We Separate dropped in 2013, and late last year saw the release of their most recent solo record, the L1 EP. Listen to Escapements cut "Preserve" below.
