  • Yves De Mey's Drawn With Shadow Pens LP is due out in January on Spectrum Spools. The Belgian experimental artist and sound designer will be making his debut on the Editions Mego subsidiary, following releases on the likes of Sandwell District, Semantica, Opal Tapes and Modal Analysis, as well as Archives Intérieures, which he runs with his Sendai collaborator Peter Van Hoesen. There's already something of a connection between Spectrum Spools and Archives Intérieures: last year Archives Intérieures reissued The Path Of Spectrolite, a 2011 album from Spectrum Spools boss John Elliott's Imaginary Softwoods alias. Spectrum Spools describes Drawn With Shadow Pens as "an album that will sound futuristic even in the future." Giving some insight into De Mey's process, the label says this: "If one were told that this entire album was comprised of tracks recorded in one-take and in mono, it could be difficult to fathom... but indeed it is true." De Mey is also set to return to Semantica this month—he's been recruited for two remixes, alongside one from Surgeon, based on material from Semantica head Svreca's Narita EP. Listen to a cut from the album, "Adamance," below.
