- Together features remastered, pitch-corrected and alternative takes from the Irish producer's 2001 Mille Plateaux classic.
Donnacha Costello has put out a new version of Together Is The New Alone, called Together.
The original album, released in 2001 on Mille Plateaux, is arguably Costello's best-known work. An ambient record that added big, emotional melodies to the label's glitchy, clicks & cuts style, it remains an enduring favourite for fans and for Costello himself. (He recently ran through "Dry Retch," one of the LP's best known tracks, on his 2015 setup.)
Looking back into the vaults, Costello discovered alternative versions of "Your New God," "That Empty Feeling" and "Nothing, Still Nothing," which are presented here. He also found out that some tracks appeared on the original CD at the wrong pitch due to "careless mastering," adding that the process and "heavy use of noise reduction... suppressed many details in reverb trails and delay lines," according to Costello himself. The new mastering was done by Stephan Mathieu, a sound artist who Costello says "has a special understanding for this music."
"These newly mastered versions retain the noise and dynamics of the original recordings," he adds. "The album now has a sonic character and open sound that breathes new life into a familiar favourite. This is how I've wanted you to hear this album for many years."
