  • Peugeot's new concept car has an electronic music pedigree. Electric cars are nearly silent compared to vehicles with traditional gas-powered engines, and this presents a problem: engine noise has come to provide some critical sensory feedback to drivers and pedestrians. Sound design is thus becoming an increasingly important part of car design. (A synth engine from Roland recently found its way into a new electric sports car, for example.) For the Fractal, which debuts this month at the Frankfurt Auto Show, Peugeot has turned to Amon Tobin, the Ninja Tune artist who's no stranger to high-concept creative technology. According to Electronic Beats, Tobin will handle "interior and exterior sound design" for the vehicle. The car also features a 12-speaker soundsystem by Focal, accented by low-end reenforcement from SubPac. There's no release date or price for the Fractal at this stage, but all signs point to it being rather pricey if it ever comes into wider release. Have a look at the concept car in the Amon Tobin-soundtracked video below.
