- The American will spend the day at the famed museum on October 15th, composing three new tracks inspired by the work of the Dutch painter.
Jeff Mills will set up his studio at The Rembrandt House in Amsterdam on Thursday, October 15th.
The event, which forms part of ADE's 20th anniversary programme, will mark the first collaboration between the museum and the annual dance music conference. The session will take place within the reconstructed studio once used by the Dutch master, where Mills will compose three new tracks inspired by the 1632 painting Philosopher In Meditation.
"The surroundings where artistic creations are made can be as important as the narrative of the art itself," said Mills. "These sacred places are often kept in modest conditions, revealing a reflection of the artist's true character. It is here where dreams and visions are born and come to life—where the message is officiated by the creator and the only true criticism is made before it is exposed to the world. The sound scaling and field recording is nothing new, but in this case, its really unprecedented because what I'm going to achieve is a live recording using the ambience of the room. So, I'm not recording in the space, but will use the natural acoustics for the recording.”
After the session, Mills will reflect on the experience at an ADE MusicTalks event at Flemish Cultural Centre De Brakke Grond. He'll also perform live once during the weekend—on Friday, October 16th, Warehouse 22 will host the Dutch debut of his 909-lead Time Tunnel project, in collaboration with Lovelands Festival.
