  • New York label Lovers Rock has revealed details for an Earthen Sea album called Ink. Jacob Long has been creating foggy, introspective sounds under the name Earthen Sea for more than a decade. Over the past 18 months the San Francisco artist has become a key figure on Lovers Rock, continuing his longstanding connection with label head Ital, AKA Daniel Martin-McCormick. (Long and Martin-McCormick were both members of the bands Black Eyes and Mi Ami.) Early 2014 saw Lovers Rock issue the Earthen Sea EP Mirage, and the alias would also appear on Lovers Rock No.6 later in the year. More recently, Long and Martin-McCormick teamed up as Sleeper Cell for an EP, Quality Of Life, released a couple weeks ago (and streaming in full at FACT). Now plans have been set for the first proper Earthen Sea LP, scheduled to arrive next month. A press release describes Ink as an "impressionistic dreamscape of American life" that counts as the project's "heaviest and most ambitious work to date." The album comprises eight tracks, with "Days Are Getting Shorter," "RMLZ" and "City Life" forming an extended suite. It'll be made available on a single vinyl record with an artwork insert from Long himself—including a limited run of 50 copies that will feature individually stamped, one-of-a-kind sleeves, also made by Long—as well as on digital formats. On the events front, a Lovers Rock showcase will happen at Output in Brooklyn next Thursday, August 13th. Ital, Earthen Sea, Aurora Halal and Damon Eliza Palermo will represent the label, and one special guest is confirmed: UK artist and Tri Angle affiliate Vessel.
