  • Adam X will bring his ADMX-71 project back to L.I.E.S. in October, this time for an album called Coherent Abstractions. The New York-bred, Berlin-based techno stalwart and Sonic Groove boss, born Adam Mitchell, has made ADMX-71 an outlet for much of his more experimental fare. The alias appeared last year on fellow NYC ex-pat Ron Morelli's label with the Redacted Files EP, and back in April Mitchell played a rare ADMX-71 live set in Berlin as part of a L.I.E.S. showcase. He's now linking up again with Morelli and the label for the third ADMX-71 LP, following Second System on Sonic Groove Experiments from 2012, and the Hands Productions-issued Luminous Vapors from 2009. (More recently, he released an Adam X album, Irreformable, through Sonic Groove last October.) A press release for Coherent Abstractions describes a diverse album that moves through "breakbeat noir, anxious electronic dub [and] reflective industrial modes." In a rarity for Mitchell's productions, there's two tracks with vocals: "Bound & Broken" features Janina, and "Nearing Obliteration" has Mitchell himself offering a "frantic vocal performance." Both Berlin and New York fans will be able to catch Adam X in action in August—he'll play Berghain next weekend, and then on the 15th he'll be in Brooklyn to celebrate his birthday at a Sonic Groove party with Henning Baer and Reade Truth. Listen to an exclusive stream of "Phenomenalist."
