- The Japanese artist died earlier this year at age 54.
Japanese producer and composer Susumu Yokota has passed away.
A prolific, wide-ranging artist who made music under his own name along with a handful of other aliases, like Prism and Ebi, Yokota was responsible for some three dozen albums over the years, exploring the worlds of acid techno, trance, ambient, downtempo and beyond. He first gained acclaim in the early '90s with releases on Germany's Harthouse label, and the likes of Leaf, Lo Recordings and Sublime Records would champion his music, as well. (He also ran his own label, Skintone, select releases from which would be licensed by Leaf and Lo Recordings.)
Yokota's family shared this short statement about his passing: "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Susumu Yokota who passed away on 27th March, 2015 at the age of 54 after a long period of medical treatment. We are deeply thankful to the people who listened to and supported Susumu's music during his lifetime. Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay in this announcement, as we were until recently unacquainted with Susumu's music industry contacts."
To mark Yokota's passing and honor his career, Leaf and Lo Recordings are preparing a four-track EP showcasing his "best loved recordings"—further details for the EP have yet to be announced.
