  • DJ Richard will release his first album, Grind, through Dial Records on September 4th. Though he's best known as part of the New York-based White Material label, Richard relocated to Berlin two years ago. Since then, he's remixed Lawrence's "Marlen" alongside Dial Records co-owner Carsten Jost, and also contributed to All, a recent compilation marking Dial's 15th anniversary. In the process, "the Dial Records crew fell deeply in love with his work," according to the press release. Feeling alienated in his adopted home, the press release says that DJ Richard looked back to his native state, Rhode Island, for inspiration—specifically instances where man has left a permanent mark on natural coastline. "There, from a suspension bridge that crosses the bay, one looks down on Rose Island on one side of said bridge and Gould Island on the other," it says. "These two geographical marks of RI, US Navy bunkers and Torpedo loading facilities for submarines during World War II, both transformed into bird sanctuaries now, lay in total disrepair: inaccessible, but central to the entire area... On the cover of the record, their photograph represents DJ Richard’s interest in those instances where the border between civilization and the ocean becomes something more ambiguous than just a coastline." DJ Richard is part of a milieu of producers who met while attending Providence's Rhode Island School Of Design, starting the White Material label with Young Male back in 2012. The fledgling imprint earned acclaim for its first few releases, including records from its co-founders and Galcher Lustwerk, landing RA Label Of The Month status in 2013. Tracklist 01.
